(Cushing, Okla.) “This is the best donation ever! It gives me chill bumps!” Brenda Stone’s, instructor for Cutter’s Edge Cosmetology School, remarked after the first locks of hair were cut!
“I took a deep breath and didn’t have the nerve to make the first cut” said Trisha James, “but with another deep breath, I knew that Alicia worked on this for three years to make her third donation for wigs for cancer victims.”
Friday, September 16 @ 9:30 am, a group of ladies and one gentleman gathered at Cutter’s School of Cosmetology to have their hair cut by the students for Pantene Beautiful Lengths. The hair cutting was to mark the beginning of preparation for the 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon sponsored by the citizens of the Cimarron valley and the Cushing Regional Hospital Foundation.
The hair donors were organized by Barbie Cotter, a Cushing Regional Hospital nurse. Barbie started growing her long before she started organizing a group to have their hair cut with her. She recruited an additional three employees from the Hospital and also her sister, Dana Bartels, from Guthrie. This is the fourth time that Barbie has donated her hair. She and her sister come from a family that has a long history of cancer.
Lynn McDermett and Grace Flynt, CRH employees, were present for their hair cut following working a night shift at CRH. Lynn has donated over 100 inches of hair over the past years. James Kephart II, CRH employee and the only man, had his hair cut and styled for the occasion! James was relieved to have the “buzzed” hair style, again.
After reading about the upcoming hair cutting, Alicia Clements called the CRH Foundation office to join in the efforts. This was Alicia’s third time to donate her hair.
In addition to the donors that received their haircuts and styles, Barbie brought along two pony tails from Ashley and Kamila Gorritti and Molly Payne of KUSH radio brought a ponytail from her son Sean Payne.
Cutter’s Edge School of Cosmetology is owned and operated by Sue Ballard. Brenda Stone is an instructor. The junior and senior stylists that cut and styled the hair were Adrian Rogers, Jamie Perryman, Amy Page, Blayre Gray, Jordan Perryman, and Trisha James.
Cutter’s Edge had over 60 feet of pony tails to add to the donation.
Lee Roy Kalka, CRH Foundation president, presented each donor with a certificate showing that they supported the 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon to be held Tuesday, Oct. 25th. All proceeds from the luncheon remain in the Cimarron Valley Region for people that need treatment for breast cancer and cannot afford it.
