Stillwater, Okla. — Two area high school students have been selected to represent Central Rural Electric Cooperative on the all-expense-paid 2013 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., this summer.

Madison Krehbiel, a Glencoe High School student and the daughter of Clint and Shelly Krehbiel, and Mulhall-Orlando High School student Benjamin Beck, the son of Ray and Talleri Beck, were selected by a panel of judges based on letters the high school juniors wrote to state or federal elected representatives expressing their opinions and ideas about current U.S. energy policy.

The two will join more than 1,300 students from across Oklahoma and 42 other states in Washington, D.C., June 14-20 in the annual Youth Tour sponsored by rural electric cooperatives. The itinerary for Oklahoma students includes Smithsonian museums, national monuments like the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, the United States Capitol and Arlington National Cemetery. The students will also meet with the state’s congressional delegation.

The annual CREC Youth Tour essay contest is open to any high school junior attending schools in the cooperative’s service area. For more information, visit the Youth Programs page at www.crec.coop.
