William “Bill” Lloyd Shaffer
August 8, 1942 - May 24, 2026

Bill Shaffer, nicknamed “Boo” by his granddaughter, Hadlee, passed from this life on Sunday, May 24, with his wife Teresa and daughter Shandi by his side.

William (Bill) Lloyd Shaffer was born on August 8, 1942, in Guthrie, OK to Perry and Lois (Smith) Shaffer. At the age of two months his family moved to Cushing. Bill attended Cushing Schools from first grade at Harrison Elementary through graduation from Cushing High School with the class of 1961.

Bill was united in marriage to Teresa Lynne Buckles on June 20, 1978. The couple was blessed to celebrate forty-seven years together.

In his early adulthood, Bill worked for a local marble company, managed a dairy and produce section for a grocery store chain, and ran a local service station. He also proudly served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969, completing his basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas. Bill later dedicated thirty-two years of his life to the City of Cushing, working as a heavy equipment operator for the Street Department until his retirement in December 2007. He was also a gifted painter with a unique eye for detail; he could effortlessly visualize colors and textures, bringing walls, woodwork, trim, and furniture to life.

Bill’s favorite recreational activity was playing golf with family and friends. Though he spent most of his life in town, he found true joy when he moved to the country in 2002, where he spent his later years tending to his cattle, caring for his pets, and enjoying his large yard. A man of deep faith, Bill was an active member of the Big Creek Church of the Brethren, where he faithfully served as Chairperson of the Trustees and on the Deacon Board.

Some of Bill’s fondest memories were made traveling with his granddaughter, Hadlee. The pair shared several special vacations to Branson, where one of their favorite traditions was driving the mountainous highways and pretending they were on a roller coaster. Bound by a shared sense of humor, they loved to tease one another. Bill took immense pride in supporting Hadlee in everything she did, always showing up to cheer her on at basketball games, dance recitals, musical performances, and activities at Oklahoma State University.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Teresa; his daughters and sons-in-law, Shandi and Carl Treat, Kristin and Marty Wasson, and Shelli Shaffer. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, Hadlee Treat, Lauren House (Taylor), Lilly Waters (Jonathan) and Valerie Shaffer; and three great-grandchildren, Duke and Ledger House, and Harper Waters. He is fondly remembered by his sister, Barbara Butcher; nephew, Brock Butcher; niece, Nikki Kyle and her husband P.J.; as well as a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Lois Shaffer and his in-laws Guy and Wanda Buckles, as well as many uncles and aunts.

Services are at 11:00am, Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in the Brethren Church Yard Cemetery.
