Kathryn Ruth Bostian
September 13, 1931 - December 28, 2025

Kathryn Ruth Bostian passed away on December 28, 2025 at the age of 94 in Cushing Oklahoma. She was born on September 13, 1931, in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. Kathryn was raised with a strong work ethic on the farm from her parents Virgil and Dorothy (Young) Longan. She attended Progress School in Coyle, Oklahoma through the 8th grade and graduated in 1949 from Coyle High School.

Kathryn married Myles Wyman Bostian on January 15, 1950. She was a farmer/rancher’s wife raising cattle, wheat, barley, and alfalfa hay. During wheat harvest she drove a wheat truck into town, picking up parts and preparing meals for the harvest crew while also canning, freezing, and gardening fruits and vegetables. Kathryn was also an avid reader of books and anything available in print, staying up on current events up until the end.

She was creative and artistic; her passion was making quilts for her children and grandchildren. The quilts were embroidered, appliqued, and stitched with most having prairie points around the edges. Queen, full size, and baby quilts were her specialty. Most of them were quilted by hand. She was a member of the “Sunshine Quilting Club” meeting at Progress School once a month. The rural school closed in May of 1960. She was very active in the community and supported Progress Schoolhouse through the Sunshine Quilting Club by making Cookbooks with a local flare of farm wives from across the community. They were printed and sold throughout the year. The club also held an annual bizarre dinner and quilt auction sometimes with standing room only, to raise money in support the schoolhouse maintenance, upkeep, and utilities.

Kathryn taught herself cake decorating from books mastering the craft of turning colored frosting into Raggedy Annes, dinosaurs and snoopy dogs on sheet cakes. Her photo album of weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and baby showers clearly showed her ability to make roses, flowers, and ribbon streamers out of sugar goodness. It is rumored that Wyman often borrowed Kathryn’s cake money to purchase fertilizer. Kathryn also enjoyed painting ceramics, dry brushing figurines such as turkeys, roosters, Santa Clauses, angels, and pumpkins. Family, friends, and neighbors appreciated her talent.

Kathryn and Wyman loved to travel in their 5th wheel trailer, spending a lot of time in Ruidoso, New Mexico, South Texas and Colorado. They later purchased a second home on Lake Texoma for the relaxing beauty of the area and always someone to talk to. Kathryn lived at Lake Texoma for many years before moving to Cushing in 2017 to be closer to family.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Myles Wyman Bostian, parents Virgil and Dorothy Longan, brothers James D (JD) Longan, Donald Longan, sisters Carolyn (longan) Sullins, and Evelyn (Longan) Crenshaw.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Kevin and his wife Jonese (Carnes) Bostian, granddaughter Dr. Amanda (Bostian) Miles and husband James, granddaughter Lauren (Bostian) Lowery and husband Bob. Also, Kathryn’s daughter Gayla (Bostian) Bates and husband Roger granddaughter Shana (Bates) Davis and husband Kelly, and grandson Dr. Jared Bates and wife Liz. Kathryn had 9 great grandchildren.

Kathryn was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Cushing Oklahoma. Deacon Brad Hawkins will officiate a memorial service at Progress School House, 12803 S Cottonwood Rd. Coyle, OK, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Kathryn’s memory can be made to Progress School House in care of Joyce Axton, 13323 S Hackleman Rd., Coyle, OK 73027.
