(Cushing, Okla.) Wilson Pre-Kindergarten just finished a week full of learning activities focusing on the arts and physical exercise during their The Week of the Young Child Celebration. This is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
Each Wilson Pre-K teacher planned a special day for the students. Emily Abbott hosted “Pretty Plant Day” for all the students. She enlisted the help of the Cushing FFA students, who brought flowers and planted one with each child. The FFA students stepped up again on Linda Vassar’s “Animal Day” so students could learn about animals and caring for them, bringing baby chickens for each class to hold and enjoy.
Wednesday was “Music and Dance Day” — Donna Shaw invited Jillian Hibbard and her Dance Star Production students to perform a variety of numbers with costumes and dancers ranging from ages 4 to 18.
Thursday was Anne Taylor’s “Tie-Dye Day” — Mrs. Taylor was assisted by Tami Hoggatt, who is Wilson’s tie dye expert, as each Wilson student actually tie-dyed their own graduation shirt to be worn in the May ceremony.
The week was concluded with “Big Bash Inflatable Day” and was hosted by teachers Misty Carmin and Gayla Hancock. They planned a day full of physical fitness activities that included jumping in bouncy houses, horseshoe games, soccer, potato relay, and lots of outside center activities for students to enjoy. The Wilson Booster Club provided popsicles so all students could enjoy a final outdoor treat to finish the day. Artwork by Wilson students were also posted throughout Cushing businesses to provide a colorful display for promoting this special week of learning and fun.
