(Stillwater) — A Yale man has been jailed on charges of assault and battery on Yale Police Chief Robert Miller by allegedly hitting him in the chest, possessing marijuana, being intoxicated in public, and carrying a 9 mm caliber handgun in the Cowboy Club in Yale, all on Jan. 3.

Liberty Zane Merriman, 33, was arraigned Friday and ordered to return to court Feb. 9 with an attorney, court records showed Monday.

Merriman, whose total bail was set at $20,000, could receive more than eight years’ behind bars and $2,600 in fines if convicted of all four counts, according to the charges filed last week by Payne County prosecutor Tom Lee.
