(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Yale man has been charged with child neglect for allowing his 5-year-old daughter, for the second time in a month, to climb on the roof of her two-story home without supervision — creating a dangerous situation for the child, court records allege.
Jonathan Wayne Sain, 45, remains free on $2,500 bail pending his arraignment with an attorney on Sept. 3, court records show.
Yale Police Officer Ken Moore was sent at 2:56 p.m. on July 24 to 222 E. Beaumont “for a small child on a roof at this residence,” according to his affidavit.
When Moore and Yale Police Chief Phillip Kelly arrived at the house at 2:56 p.m., “we saw a small girl running across the roof,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
“I tried to get the girl to respond to voice instructions, but she did not seem to notice me,” Moore wrote in his affidavit.
“I then pounded on the front door. Jonathan Sain answered the door. I told him his daughter was on the roof again,” Moore wrote in his affidavit.
“This is the second time Yale police have been dispatched to this residence for the same child being on the roof unsupervised,” the affidavit alleged.
Three weeks earlier, “On the first call, it took four to five minutes for Mr. Sain to come to the door,” the affidavit alleged.
“However she got onto the roof has not been fixed, clearly because she got out on the roof a second time,” the affidavit alleged.
“Oklahoma Department of Human Services was contacted and referred on both cases,” the affidavit said.
