(Cushing, Okla.) To ensure World War II veterans were not forgotten, American Legion Post 108 held a reception to honor them and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Guests and honorees visited with a backdrop of era music played by Linda Miller Logan. Post Commander Jim Hunter presented a book, “Lest We Forget”, donated by Copper Penney owners Kelly and Steve Dilley as a way to honor WWII veteran Richard Cullison who was at Pearl Harbor the day of the attack.
Cullison served in the Navy and was on the USS YG-21 when the attack occurred. In an earlier interview with Cullison, he spoke of that day. The day he looked out to see incoming planes with the red balls on the side – so close, he could see the pilots’ faces. The day he found himself working along side his fellow comrades performing tasks too horrific to ever forget.
Seventy years later, Cullison, dressed in white shirt and Navy cummerbund, had the opportunity to stand next to his fellow WWII comrades and do what we all should do – REMEMBER.
Cullison, now 90, lives in Cushing with his wife Bonnie and is a member of the American Legion Post 108.
