(Stillwater, Okla.) — Two women have been charged with stealing a 2001 Jeep SUV and a 2011 Ford Fusion from Prescott Motors at 1023 E. 6th Ave. in Stillwater – where six vehicles were reported stolen from the lot and the business burglarized, with total loss estimated at $41,100 on Saturday.
The Jeep and Ford were found later Saturday in the parking lot of the Motel 51 at 1324 E. 6th in Stillwater where both women were arrested, according to a Stillwater police news release.
Due to two prior convictions for false declaration of ownership in pawn, Amanda Sahara Burhans, 37, of Stillwater, could receive a prison term of six years to life plus a fine of up to three times the value of the vehicles, court records show.
Burhans had been given two concurrent three-year probationary sentences in 2006 for those Payne County felonies that occurred in 2003 and 2005, court records show.
In her latest case, Burhans was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors for which she could receive a two-year jail term and $2,000 in fines if convicted of both counts.
Burhans was released from the Payne County Jail on Monday after posting $25,000 bond, with an order to appear in court this afternoon on the three-count charge, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Also charged in the vehicle thefts from Prescott Motors was former Stillwater resident Kallea Renea Cowie, 29, of Perry, who remains jailed on $25,000 bail pending a court appearance this afternoon on a three-count charge including possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
If convicted of car theft, Cowie could be imprisoned for three to 20 years and fined up to three times the value of the vehicles, court records show.
Cowie had been placed on five years’ probation under a deferred sentence last August on her guilty plea to making a false declaration of ownership to a pawnbroker on Jan. 14, 2017, in Stillwater, regarding a 10K gold woman’s ring, a cubic Zirconia woman’s ring, a 10K gold boa bracelet, and a 10K gold bead chain, court records show.
Cowie has been accused of violating her probationary terms by failing to pay restitution, court costs and other fees as ordered, along with failing to report to her supervising authority since Oct. 19, 2017, and failing to provide verification of completion of community service, court records show.
According to Noble County court records, Cowie had also been charged with second-degree burglary and concealing stolen property in Perry in 2017, two felony counts on which she has been ordered to appear on June 7.
The investigation into the Prescott Motors vehicle thefts is continuing since more people are believed to be involved and four vehicles remain missing, according to a Stillwater police news release.
The missing vehicles were described as a dark gray 2001 Chevrolet Suburban SUV with Oklahoma tag AUW-815, a black 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup with used dealer tag UD4850, a black 2009 Cadillac CTS-V four-door with Oklahoma tag IGT-815, and a black 2008 Chevrolet Impala four-door with Oklahoma tag BYW-790.
Stillwater police urge anyone with information about the theft or vehicles not confront anyone in possession of them, but instead call the Criminal Investigations Unit at 405-372-4171.
