(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater woman, who reportedly told a Perkins police officer “she was going to take off running and that I was just going to have to kill her,” has been ordered to undergo random drug testing as a condition of a five-year probationary sentence she was given last week when she admitted illegally using a relative’s car.
Alicia Renee Waitt, 25, was also ordered by Payne County District Judge Phillip Corley to have a substance abuse evaluation and perform any recommended follow-up treatment, court records show.
Waitt had been arrested at 12:19 am on July 1 by Perkins Police Officer Daryn Zanfardino, who spotted the vehicle at 12:12 am, two minutes after it was reported as stolen, his affidavit said.
After the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, the car continued traveling and ran a right light before turning into the parking lot of a gas station, the affidavit said.
“While in front of the passenger side transport compartment, Waitt stated that she was going to take off running and that I was just going to have to kill her,’ Waitt was placed inside the transport compartment for her safety while I continued to investigate the situation,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
A dispatcher subsequently notified the Perkins officer that Waitt’s driver’s license had been suspended since 2014, the affidavit said.
“I asked Alicia if there was a reason she ran the red light at 33 and Main and she stated ‘you turned your lights on, that was it. I took off,"” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
At 12:50 am Waitt’s relatives arrived at the scene and decided they did want to press charges, the affidavit said.
The older relative said that when Waitt had asked her if she could borrow the car, she told Waitt “she couldn’t because she wasn’t covered by the insurance on the vehicle,” the affidavit said. The relatives “stated that Alicia then took the keys and took the vehicle anyway,” the affidavit said.
Since Waitt was given a deferred sentence, she will not have a criminal record of the felony charge if she successfully completes the terms of her probation.
