William Garth Orr Jr. (Bill) 84 of Sand Springs, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord on May 23, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on February 24, 1930 in Drumright, Oklahoma to William Garth Orr Sr. and Ethel (Johnson) Orr. He received his early education in the Wagoca School District and graduated from Cushing High School in 1948.
Bill joined the United States Army in 1948 and served for three years. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Bill was proud to serve alongside three of his lifelong friends while in the military, namely; Bill Summers, Jerry Bechtel and Clinton Hinkle.
Bill married Betty Colleen Harris on September 5, 1953, and to this union they had four boys. Bill was industrious and worked hard in various jobs to provide for his family. These jobs included; Consolidated Flour Mills, Cessna Aircraft Company, and Binney & Smith Crayola.
After retiring he became actively involved with the Blind Veterans Association and served three terms as the State president. Bill was also actively involved at Broadway Baptist Church serving as a deacon for many years. Bill served at Broadway in several capacities, but he especially loved greeting people and delivering sermon tapes to shut-ins. His hobbies included; fishing, hunting, auto detailing, and yard work. Mr. Orr was a committed family man and greatly enjoyed family gatherings.
Bill is survived by his wife, “Beautiful Betty” of the home, Catherine (Orr) Candler, Dallas, Texas, Blaine (Joanna) Orr, Branson, Missouri, Blake (Ruth Ann) Orr, Winfield, Kansas, and Ira Brent Orr, Winfield, Kansas, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two sisters, Deloris Martin, Ft. Pierce, Flordia, Gracie Hadding, Greenville, Texas, one brother, Leslie Orr, Ardmore, Oklahoma, along with numerous other family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his son, William Garth Orr III (Butch), his grandsons, Casey Allen Orr and Joshua Ocle Orr, and granddaughter Talitha Orr.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the Broadway Baptist Church (benevolence fund) 1000 N. Adams Road, Sand Springs, Ok 74063 and the building fund of Central Baptist Church, 904 Wheat Road, Winfield, Kansas 67156.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., May 28, 2014 at Broadway Baptist Church in Sand Springs with Reverends Blake Orr, Adam Orr and Mark Miller officiating.
