These are exciting times in Cushing as it continues the change and grow. Here’s a list of things to check out next time you come to town:
Downtown Cushing boasts a new park – Centennial Park – located just a few doors down from the Alumni Hall.
Show and Tell Times moved from its location on Main Street and is now enjoying its new digs at 208 W. Broadway.
Hungry for some real Kansas City BBQ? Kansas City natives, Vernon and Velma McCauley recently opened for business – V & M Bar B Q (call in orders and carry-out only) is located at 502 N. Cleveland, once a gas station, it is just two blocks north of the police station on the corner of Cleveland and Walnut.
Take in a movie at the Dunkin Theatre – it has gone digital!
Downtown Furniture, located at 201 East Broadway, recently closed but has been replaced by The Corner Shed owned by CHS alumnus Bobby Farley.
The Hernandez family (owners of Rodolfo’s) now offers breakfast and lunch at Hernandez Breakfast Cafe located at 616 E. Main, formally a BBQ restaurant and at one time, the Dairy Queen.
Got insurance?
LeeRoy Kalka recently retired, but left the business in good hands – alumnus Mike Gaskins is the face you’ll see at Farmer’s Insurance located at 823 E. Main.
Need drugs?
May’s Drug, located next to Escott’s, closed its doors last summer but reopened a new facility as Med-X located at the corner of Main and Linwood.
Forget your flip-flops?
The new mega-sized Wal-Mart, located east of town, is slated to open the first week of May – in plenty of time for alumni weekend. Drivers beware – it also brought with it a new stop light!
Need a place to open your business?
Hughes Lumber shut its doors, but the property is for sale – along with several others in Downtown Cushing.
Coming Soon:
Braum’s is expanding to become bigger and better. Also in the works – a new motel!
Things rumored:
There are whisperings of a new steak house, pastry shop, coffee shop, art gallery and a tea room.
