(Pullman. Wa)- The Washington State Cougars confirmed Wednesday evening the hiring of former Texas Tech football coach, Mike Leach. Leach will replace Paul Wulff, whom the Cougars fired tuesday after four seasons with the team. The school says that in principle Leach has agreed to a five year contract. He is expected to be the highest paid football coach in the Pac-12.
Mike Leach became well known for one of the most prolific offenses in the nation while at Texas Tech. Where he led the Red Raiders to 10 straight bowl games. While at Tech, Leach’s 2008 team set a school record with 11 wins in the regular season and was ranked as high as number two in the nation.
Leach inherits a Washington State Cougar team that only went 4-8 this season. The Cougars expect to return 16 starters including two quarterbacks. Mike Leach is expected to be introduced as head coach of Washington State at a new conference Tuesday December 6th.
