Virginia Shelley, a longtime Oilton resident, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 in the Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, OK at the age of 77 years.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Oilton, OK and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in the Christ Fellowship Church in Oilton. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Oilton, OK.
The daughter of the late Theodore B. Haney and Opal (Russell) Haney, Virginia was born on October 16, 1932 in Stroud, OK. She was reared and educated in the Drumright and Oilton area, graduation from Oilton High School with the class of 1950.
Virginia was united in marriage to Bill Shelley on June 3, 1950 in Sedan, KS. The couple returned to Oilton where they have lived ever since. Throughout her life, Virginia worked at the Oilton school systems and the Christ Fellowship Church doing secretarial work. She was also active at the Christian school as a substitute teacher where she taught arts. Virginia will be best remembered by her friends as an avid bird watcher, painter, gardener, and reader. Her family will best remember the many times that she read stories to them.
Survivors include her husband Bill, Sr. of the home; one son, Bill Dean Shelley, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Oilton; two daughters, Sheryl Ellis and her husband Paul of Oilton and Rebecca Martin and her husband Mike of Glencoe; one sister, Susie Mullens and her husband Jesse of Haltom, TX; 13 grandchildren, Andrew Shelley, Blake Martin, Samuel Martin, April Lazzara, Tonya Lynch, David Shelley, Matthew Shelley, Jennifer Shelley, Julie Grissom, Laura Shelley, Heather Burns, Aimee Tunnell, and Patrick Tunnell; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by one son, Mark Shelley and one brother, Wayne Haney.
