Vernon Ray Nicholas, age 76 of Cushing, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the O.S.U. Medical Center, Tulsa, Ok.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing.  Diana Hopkins will officiate.  Interment will follow at Pate Cemetery, Cushing, Ok.

Vernon was born on June 2, 1938 in Cushing, Ok to the late Paul and Garnett (Delancy) Nicholas.  He grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing High School. Vernon worked as an Oilfield Mechanic for his dad, and then later began working for Camblin Machine and Supply in Oilton and later Olive for about 50 years.

He like to race motorcycles, loved fishing and camping and mowing the grass.He married the loved of his life Brenda Pate on December 31, 1977 in Miami, Ok.They enjoyed spending time with each other.

Vernon is survived by his wife Brenda of the home, sons Randy Rowell of Drumright, Samuel Wright and wife Jimmie of Cushing, Jim Bob Story and wife Christy of Cushing,daughter-in-law Rose Bluie, sisters Pauline Jackson of Yukon, Margaret Shoemaker and husband Dick of Okmulgee, Mary Ann Braun of Cushing,grandchildren Reggie Robert Story II, Daniel Rowell, Madelyn Nowell Wright, great granddaughter Layla Ann Rowell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Teddy Nicholas, sister Darlene Blankenship, brother-in-law Kenneth Jackson.
