(Stillwater, OK) — With over a week left in its 2024 fundraising campaign, United Way of Payne County has raised nearly $1.2 million for area residents – the most money raised in UWPC’s 72-year history.
United Way board members, staff, and representatives from some of its 24 partner agencies gathered outside the Stillwater YMCA Dec. 19 to celebrate the successful campaign, led by board member and campaign chair, Larin Davis.
Among those gathered were Ruth Cavins, executive director of United Way of Payne County.
“The United Way campaign is a beautiful collaboration of individuals and businesses coming together to alleviate some of the most pervasive issues impacting our community,” Cavins said. “It takes money to keep our safety net of nonprofit partner agencies operating,” she said, adding, “I am humbled by the generosity of our donors who contribute to ensure that the safety net remains strong.”
Each year the UWPC Community Investment Committee conducts a rigorous review of the nonprofit agencies applying for funding. It is one of many committees comprised of volunteer board members. The UWPC Board reviews and approves the recommendations of the Community Investment Committee, from which it sets the annual fundraising goal. If UWPC is successful it meeting that goal, funding allocations are distributed to each awarded agency in beginning in January.
UWPC’s collective work centers around four impact areas: Health Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency in Stillwater, Perkins, Cushing, Glencoe, Ripley, and Yale.
This is the third year UWPC has set and accomplished a goal of at least a million dollars.
“Everyone who contributes should feel pride in that success,” Cavins said. Those who have yet to make donations can still do so. Anyone interested in contributing can visit unitedwaypaynecounty.org, or call 405-377-2161. They may also stop by their office at 109East Ninth Avenue in Stillwater.
