(Stillwater) — After the filing period for area school board seats closed on Wednesday, it was painfully obvious that few people want to serve on local school boards. In Payne County, there were only two elections that were going to take place. One for the Indian Meridian Technology Center board, and the other for a seat on the Glencoe Board of Education. But on Thursday, Clinton R. Krehbiel withdrew from the race, making it a two person race. On Friday, Jason Cavett withdrew his candidacy, making it no race at all. Oscar Montelongo is elected, without opposition to the Glencoe Board of education. Friday was the last day for contest of candidacy or candidate withdrawal.

In Cushing, a board member will have to be appointed after no candidate filed for a vacant seat on the Cushing Board of Education. Frank Denney filed for a two year un-expired term, but a five year board term drew no filers.

In all the other board seats in Payne County, only one person filed for election, with the Indian Meridian Technology center being the lone exception. Jerry Franklin and Tina Fugate have filed for the five year term on that board up for election, and the balloting will take place in February.
