(Cushing, Okla.)   One of the best things about doing a radio show is having the opportunity to meet great people and getting to know them. Conversations on and off the air often lead to unforgettable relationships. Cushing High School senior Trey Morris is one of those people.

Trey represented the Cushing Tigers each game day during the 2016 football season by coming in the KUSH studio to talk about Tiger football. It was during those visits he promised we’d be “the first to know” when he’d made a decision about where he was going to college. A young man of his word, Trey paid a visit to HOME with the KUSH Girls on Monday to make the announcement he’d made a verbal commitment to Emporia State University to become a Hornet.

Morris, who is not only a dedicated and accomplished athlete, but holds a 4.0 GPA, has had his share of suitors vying for him to attend their college or university. “I’ve probably visited 20 different schools,” he told listeners. Consequently, the decision to take ESU up on their offer of a “full ride” scholarship has not been an easy one to make. It’s involved much consideration, input from his parents, Dr. King and Anita Morris, and prayer.

Aside from ESU athletics being ranked in the top 20 in producing NCAA Division II All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the student to faculty ratio is 18:1 – something very important to Morris scholastically and emotionally. “It’s like family there,” Morris said.

His father echoed that sentiment saying, “We feel like they will take care of him.”

And it’s only 3 hours and 12 minutes from his hometown of Cushing.

This Saturday Trey Morris will be playing as a wide receiver in the prestigious Blue and Gray All-American Bowl at the Oakland Raiders’ Coliseum in Oakland, California. Click here for more information: Blue and Gray All-American Bowl

After the big game, it could be he will get other offers – maybe even that “dream offer.” But for now Trey is happy with the decision he’s made and looking forward to the future and signing on the dotted line…
