(Cushing, Okla.) On March 15, 2015 just prior to 5:00 p.m. while working traffic, Cushing Police Officers Arron Sherman observed a silver Chevrolet SUV run the stop sign at the intersection of Wilson and 2nd Street.

Ofc. Sherman then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the stop sign violation. During the stop, Ofc. Sherman contacted the driver of the vehicle, along with the front seat passenger, Ronald Kevin Furrh, 49 year old Cushing resident.

Following his initial contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Ofc. Sherman had Communications check both occupants for outstanding warrants. Communications later advised that Furrh had an outstanding Payne County warrant for his arrest.

Ofc. Sherman subsequently arrested Furrh on the outstanding misdemeanor warrant. During the on-scene custodial search of Furrh, Ofc. Sherman asked Furrh if he had anything illegal on his person. Furrh advised Ofc. Sherman that he had two syringes and a bag of “Weed” in his pant pockets. Ofc. Sherman later removed these items from Furrh’s person, along with a small round light green pill.

Once Furrh was secured in his patrol car, Ofc. Sherman completed his traffic stop and released the released the driver and vehicle. Ofc. Sherman the transported Furrh to the Cushing Police Department, where he was booked in. During the book-in, MPO Matt Piatt measured from the arrest location to Wilson Pre-k School which was approximately 928 feet. Ofc. Sherman later field tested the green leafy substance, which tested positive for Marijuana.

Furrh is currently being held on a complaint of possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1000 feet of a school and possession of marijuana within 1000 feet of a school. Furrh is expected to be transported to the Payne County Sheriff’s Department this morning.

“I commend the proactive work demonstrated by Ofc. Sherman to help remove Furrh and the drugs from our city streets,” Chief Folden said.
