(Cushing) – A traffic stop Saturday night has resulted in the arrest of a rural Cushing man who was alleged to be in possession of nearly 1 and a half pounds of marijuana.  Cushing Police Chief Terry Brannon says the traffic stop occurred after Officer Matthew Piatt observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the speed limit in the 400 block of North Kings Highway.  Brannon says the officer also noticed the tag light of the vehicle was out.

A traffic stop was initiated and took place near the intersection of Central and Main.  Brannon says the officer found the driver,  33 year old Reed Tarver was driving with a revoked license and he was arrested.  During an inventory of the vehicle by officer Brandon Hise,  an estimated 1.47 pounds of marijuana was discovered in the vehicles floorboard.

Tarver was arrested and jailed, and later posted $25 thousand dollars bond.  Brannon says the suspected marijuana was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for further testing.

Formal charges are still pending with the Payne County district Attorney’s Office.
