(Perkins)- The Cushing Tigers knew they would have their hands full with the highly regarded and third ranked Oklahoma City Douglass Trojans in the 1st round of the regional tournament in Perkins. The Trojans were known to bring an intense, full court man-to-man pressure game.

But for a half anyway, Cushing was up to the challenge. Cushing led much of the first half, before the the Trojans hit a buzzer beating three pointer just before the half to take a two point 28-26 lead. Cushing had led by as many as six points throughout the first half, and seemed up to the task of handling the end to end game of the Trojans.

Unfortunately, the 2nd half proved to be quite different. Cushing turned the ball over numerous times, and Douglass went on a 13-0 scoring run to start the third quarter, and left the Tigers behind. Cushing disn’t score a point in the third quarter until only about three minutes remained when Casey Youngman hit a free throw to give Cushing its first score of the second half.

Douglass never let up the pressure, and Cushing fell 75-41. Perhaps even worse, Junior forward Philip Wilson suffered an eye injury that sidelined him for the rest of the game, and perhaps even longer. The extent of the injury was not known at games end.

The loss sets up an elimination match up between Cushing and Berryhill at 8:00 PM on Friday in Perkins.

You can hear that game on 1600 AM KUSH.
