(Cushing) –  The Cushing Tiger Basketball teams have advanced in the Regional Tournament underway at the Cushing High School Fieldhouse with a pair of victories over the Blackwell Maroons.

In the girls game,  Cushing opened a nearly insurmountable lead in the first half,  limiting Blackwell to just four points in the first quarter, and five in the second for a 28-9 halftime lead.   Cushing went on to win 43-31.  The loss ended the season for the Lady Maroons.

The boys game was much closer throughout the game.   Blackwell led 28-23 at halftime after a buzzer beating three point shot.

Cushing trailed most of the game,  but retook the lead late in the fourth quarter,  and had an opportunity to win the game from the free throw line,  but could not connect on crucial free throws down the stretch.   Blackwell tied the game  at 55 with 2 seconds left,  and the game went into overtime.

But Cushing dominated the 4 minute overtime period,  holding the Maroons scoreless,  while putting up eight points.   The final dagger was a three point shot from the right corner by senior guard Beau Bruce.   Eric Harrison found Bruce wide open on an inbound play,  and Bruce knocked down his fourth three point shot of the game.

The loss also ended the Maroon Boys season.

Both Cushing teams play again Friday,  with the girls tipping off at 1:30 against a yet to be determined opponent,   the boys will follow at three.

Both games can be heard on KUSH and here on 1600KUSH.com.
