Fun Friday on the Donna and Molly Show is really beginning to catch on throughout the community since Tiger Time began.  Folks seemed to enjoy hearing from the kids at Cushing High School.  This week, the KUSH Girls visited with CHS Tiger football players Blake Murray (sophomore) and Jared Bass (junior), with a brief visit from Jake Music and a report from Chandler Payne.

First up – the Tigers – Blake and Jared talked about themselves a bit and then went on to talk about their desire to get their first win of the season.  “We think we have a good chance tonight,” Blake said with confidence.

(And good news!  They did it.  The Tigers beat their opponents soundly: 35 Cushing, 21 McLoud.)

One of the things the KUSH Girls have noted week after week is just how polite, smart and funny the young men from the football team have been.  Cushing can be very proud to have the Tigers represent CHS and the families of Cushing.

Chandler Payne made her second trip to KUSH to update everyone on what’s happening at CHS.  Chandler, a junior at CHS, is cute, smart and has a quick wit and great sense of humor.  It didn’t take long for the KUSH Girls to proclaim Chandler an “Honorary KUSH Girl.”

Chandler told us that the Family and Consumer Science One classes made flour babies and described how the students were carrying their “babies” around the school all week.  They decorated the sacks and were to be graded on the condition of the sack at the end of the week.

Donna and Molly told Chandler that after having three kids each, they could see a definite advantage of just having flour babies…

Another newsworthy note – Richard Dodrill of Dodrill’s Museum had recently visited Cathy Smith’s class and let students hold a mammoth tooth.  Students were excited to see some of the artifacts Mr. Dodrill has collected over the years.

CHS band competed at Oolagah on Sept. 26th, placing 8th.  They were traveling to Glenpool for a competition over the weekend and will be hosting a marching competition on Oct. 8th.  Sometimes overlooked, our CMS band and CHS band should be commended for the consistently good performance.  Our hats off to Mr. Danny White and Mrs. Danna White – they do a great job teaching our children the value of music.

Chandler mentioned the great season the softball girls had this year with 20 wins.  Sept. 25th was “senior night” where seniors Krista Smith, Alex Williams, DeShea Ladd and Brenna Winterbottom were honored.

Ninth grade football players, although struggling so far this year, are hoping for their first win SOON.   Quarterback Bingham Hightower says they work hard every week to “go out and be better.”

Although she doesn’t plan on entering, Chandler said that it is time to sign up for Payne County Jr. Miss competition.  Two years ago, Jordan Young represented CHS proudly – winning the title.  Go to www.pcjm.org for more information.

Another exciting thing for locals – several Cushing seniors were interviewed by News Channel 8, KTUL to be featured on “Cool Schools.”  Monday, Oct. 5th, Aaron Houtchens will be featured followed by Shelby Hale on Tuesday, Oct. 6th.  Wednesday, Oct. 7th it will be Robbie Smith, Thursday, Oct. 8th Brenna Winterbottom and on Friday, Oct. 9th Garrett Evans will speak.  Be sure to watch News Channel 8 this week to see our kids representing Cushing!
