We’ve all heard the term “Gifted and Talented”. Well, as I’ve said before (and I’ll proudly say it again) Cushing has some great students! Some people don’t know it, but CHS sponsors a program specifically for students in Gifted and Talented. These students go several places each year, and are also allowed (and encouraged) to pursue independent study in specific areas as desired.

The destinations the students travel to are determined by both request and what teachers think would be beneficial to the students. Two of my personal favorites were last year when G&T visited the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and when we went to see the Great Gatsby ballet. This year, students have traveled to, and will travel to, the Oklahoma History Museum, Greenwood Cultural Center, the Pollard Theatre production of A Territorial Christmas Carol, the OSU Vet Med Open House, and the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion.

The purpose of the organization, as you can already tell, is to provide enrichment for the lives of students who qualify for the program. These students usually have a general idea of what they want to do and where they want to go. This program provides them with the opportunities and abilities to get more insight, and become more well rounded, into their chosen careers.

The advisor for the CHS chapter of G&T is Mrs. Julie Puls. If you’d like to make any suggestions or ask any questions, feel free to call her at 225 – 6622.
