(Stillwater, Okla.) — Suspended Payne County Detention Officer Lane Tyrell Long, 24, of Glencoe, has been jailed on $75,000 bail on a felony charge alleging that he sexually abused a 15-year-old girl during a seven-month period ending on Aug. 17, court records show.
Long’s defense attorney, Corey Brennan of Oklahoma City, has filed a motion for a bail reduction that is scheduled to be heard by a Payne County judge on Sept. 10, court records show.
If convicted of child sexual abuse, Long could be given as much as a life prison term, according to the charge filed by Payne County Assistant District Attorney Debra Vincent last week.
Long was investigated by the state crime bureau on the Aug. 21 request of then-sheriff R.B. Hauf, whose retirement took effect on Sept. 1.
On Aug. 21, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Agent Rachel Savory interviewed Long at the Payne County Sheriff’s Office, according to her affidavit.
Long admitted to receiving and viewing nude images of the 15-year-old girl on Snapchat, the affidavit alleged.
Long admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl on at least 10 occasions beginning in January of this year, the affidavit alleged.
“Long accessed Snapchat from his cellular phone, an iPhone XS Max. Long deleted the images from his phone when he saw Payne County deputies at his residence the night of Aug. 21, 2019,” the affidavit alleged.
“Long admitted he made a big mistake and knew that his relationship with (the girl) was wrong and illegal because she was fifteen years old,” the affidavit alleged.
On Aug. 22 during an interview at the Saville Center in Stillwater, the girl said that she and Long had sexual intercourse more than once a week beginning in January and ending on Aug. 17 of this year, the affidavit alleged.
Payne County Sheriff Kevin Woodward, who was sworn into office on the day after Labor Day, did not respond to an email inquiry regarding the dates of Long’s hiring and suspension.
