(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man accused of hitting his girlfriend in the head with a hammer remains in the Payne County Jail on $10,000 bail pending a Nov. 5 court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The 35-year-old woman, who had blunt force trauma to the back of her head, was transported to the Stillwater Medical Center where she was treated for a skull fracture and laceration before being released, according to a police news release.

The defendant, Jesus Bravo Valadez, 47, who has also been known as Jesus Valdez Bravo, was arrested at the Stonegate apartment complex in Stillwater, a police news release said.

The woman had called 911 at 12:40 a.m. on Oct. 2 and said her boyfriend hit her in the head with a hammer, but she did not know her address and could not provide her location before the call was disconnected, Stillwater Police Cpt. Kyle Gibbs said in a news release.

Using 911 mapping, it was determined that the call came from the area of the Stonegate apartment complex at 1815 N. Boomer Road in Stillwater, the police news release said.

“After speaking with several people in surrounding apartments, officers learned that the victim had recently moved to a different unit within the complex,” the police news release said.

Using information provided by neighbors, officers were able to locate the woman and her boyfriend, the police news release said.

The woman’s boyfriend was charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a felony punishable by a minimum of a one-year jail term to a maximum of a 10-year prison term on conviction, court records show.

According to Payne County court records, last year Valadez was accused of stabbing and cutting another woman on the head and thumb on Christmas Eve of 2017. That felony charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon was dismissed for lack of evidence at a preliminary hearing held two days after Valentine’s Day, court records show.
