(Stillwater, Okla.)  — A 50-year-old Stillwater man, who was given a jury-recommended 10-year prison term last week for possessing child pornography, plans to live with a woman in Perkins on his release from incarceration, according to a pre-sentencing investigation.
For distributing child pornography, Donald Eugene Lett was also given a concurrent jury-recommended two-year prison term by District Judge Phillip Corley. Lett had been convicted of both counts by a Payne County jury in May, but he continues to maintain his innocence, the judge noted at his sentencing Friday.
In the pre-sentencing report, Lett wrote, “My phone was found to have 14 (photos/videos) of child pornography embedded in certain application on my phone. However, my phone was frequently being used by other of my meth-using ‘friends,’ sometimes for hours at a time during overnight stays.
“I do attest to having hundreds of pictures of myself (in various states of dress or nudity, and a handful with other consenting adults,) which were accessible in my picture galleries and albums.
“I, however, fervently deny downloading any pictures of child pornography or sending any. Many of the social media apps downloaded on my phone were downloaded by two of my acquaintances who were going to set up an ‘only fans’ account for me using my pictures and videos.
“They also took many of the pictures of me and traded them with my permission in an attempt to create an ‘only fans’ fanbase. It is my assertion that they used my phone to search for those pictures or traded for them on the apps they had downloaded as none were in my galleries.”
Lett has been in the Payne County Jail since his arrest at his apartment on June 2, 2021, by Stillwater Police Detective Sherae LeJeune, court records show.
In her affidavit, the detective wrote that on May 28, 2021, “I contacted Lett in the driveway of his residence…I informed Lett that I was investigating a distribution of child pornography case in which his Facebook account was involved. Lett advised that he is interested in young males due to the fact he lives in a college town.
“He said he does search for ‘younger males’ on pornography websites. He had seen what appeared to be child pornography listed in the search results before, but he does not specifically search for it. He admitted to viewing a video of what appeared to be a 12-year-old boy. He closed the video when he noticed the boy was younger than he should be for pornography.
“He said he did not mean to download the video if he did. He also said if he sent the video to someone else, he did not mean to because he thought he got rid of it,” the detective alleged in her affidavit.
“On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, I applied for and was granted a search warrant for Lett’s cellphone. A search of the cellphone showed there were multiple social media applications to include Telegram X, WhatsApp, MeetMe, Kik, Skout, Omegle and Facebook. These applications are platforms commonly used to chat with strangers with similar interests.
“On April 11, 2021, in the ‘youngboyz4all’ chat group in the Kik app, a user sent child sexual assault material to the group, including the two videos from the CyberTip. On April 18, 2021, Lett sent the same material to ‘Nun Bizz’ on Facebook Messenger, which caused his account to be deactivated and prompted the initiation of this case,” the detective alleged in her affidavit.
In his pre-sentencing investigation recommending that Lett be incarcerated, Probation and Parole Officer Lance Kopenhagen noted, “He minimized his responsibility and involvement in the instant offenses.”
