(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man — accused of trying to break into a Cushing woman’s apartment six days after he allegedly abused an ex-girlfriend in Stillwater last year – is being sought by authorities on a charge of shooting a male acquaintance in the leg on July 14 in Stillwater.
Tyrell Duvonn Celestine, 22, “is considered armed and dangerous,” Stillwater Police Captain Kyle Gibbs said in a news release.
“He is a black male, 6’2” tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds,” the news release said.
“Anyone seeing Celestine or having information about his whereabouts is asked to contact law enforcement,” the news release said.
Stillwater police were called about a gunshot victim shortly before 7 p.m. on July 14 to a house in the 1400 block of South Lewis Street, the news release said.
A 35-year-old Stillwater man, who was acquainted with Celestine, was shot in his upper right leg, the news release said.
The victim was transported to the Stillwater Medical Center emergency room, Stillwater Police Detective Kyle Bruce wrote in an affidavit.
The victim “said he was at his cousin’s house watching a movie,” when Celestine, whose street name is 2 7, and a group of people came into the house, the affidavit alleged.
The victim said they started to argue with the resident about money, the affidavit said.
During the argument, “Celestine pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it toward,” the victim, the affidavit alleged.
“Celestine fired the gun,” that shot the victim in the leg, the affidavit alleged.
The resident said that after he heard a gunshot, “Celestine and the group ran out of the house,” the affidavit alleged.
The resident said that he heard another gunshot come from the driveway, the affidavit said.
“The cars left the driveway at a high rate of speed,” according to the resident – who told police “he did not know Tyrell personally, but had heard of his street name 2 7,” the affidavit alleged.
“During the initial investigation, officers were not able to determine the cause for the initial disturbance.
“No one heard Celestine make any threats of a gun or direct a statement to (the shooting victim) or other witnesses about having a gun,” the affidavit said.
According to court records, last October Celestine was released on $15,000 bail on a charge of trying to force open the front door of a Cushing woman’s unit at Southgate Apartments — while she was inside pushing her weight against the door to shut and lock it, at 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 28, 2014.
In the Cushing case, Celestine was initially charged with the felony of attempted first-degree burglary – which was changed last week to misdemeanor attempted breaking and entering, court records show. He has been scheduled to appear in court in that case on Aug. 14 before District Judge Phillip Corley.
At the time of that alleged incident, Celestine was free on $5,000 bond on a charge of abusing an ex-girlfriend six days earlier in Stillwater, court records show. Celestine has also been scheduled to appear in court in that case on Aug. 14 before Corley.
Anyone with information about the shooting incident in Stillwater last week is asked to contact the criminal investigations unit of the Stillwater Police Department at 405-372-4171.
