(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man, who was originally charged with sexually battering and punching an older male relative with whom he was living, pleaded guilty to domestic violence after the felony sex charge was dropped by the prosecution last week, court records show.

Cory Alexander Jones, 29, also pleaded guilty to a felony charge of drunk driving that had occurred four months earlier.

For domestic violence of the older male relative, Jones was placed on 18 months’ probation with an order to have individual counseling for 12 months or until released by his counselor, court records show.

In a petition for a protective order issued on Dec. 30, 2020, the older male relative wrote, “During the afternoon of 12-29, Cory was acting weird. He said his daughter was in heaven. I pressed him as to what he was talking about. He said I knew (which I had no idea.)

After Jones allegedly attempted to take the victim’s pants off, “I slapped him and he slugged me right in my lower mouth nearly knocking me out…He has had a pattern of excess drinking and drug abuse…he gets mean when this happens. Twice this year he has stolen my car or truck in the middle of the night to do something,” the older male relative wrote in his protective order petition.

Jones was arrested by Stillwater police at 11:58 pm on Dec. 29, 2020, at the residence where he was then living with his older male relative, court records show.

When Stillwater Police Investigator Charles Rivas asked the victim what caused the incident, “He told me he does not know what made Cory snap the way he did. He believes that Cory is possibly under the influence of methamphetamine,” the affidavit said.

After his arrest, “Cory admitted to punching (the older man). He told me he had to do it to save his family. I asked what he was saving his family from that would require him to punch (the older man.) Cory told me he punched him to save his family from the coronavirus,” the investigator wrote in his affidavit.

Four months earlier, Jones had been charged with drunk driving in Stillwater on Aug. 22, 2020, following a traffic stop by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Mitchell Conley. For that felony to which he pleaded guilty last week, Jones was placed on six years’ probation with extensive conditions, court records show.

Associate District Judge Stephen Kistler ordered Jones last week to have a substance abuse evaluation, follow any recommended treatment, undergo random drug tests, show proof of employment or student status, attend a victim impact panel, perform 100 hours of community service, and install an interlock on his vehicle for 18 months.

Jones was also ordered last week to pay a $1,500 fine and make a $150 contribution to the victims’ compensation fund.

In 2013, Jones had been charged with actual physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in Cherokee County, a misdemeanor for which he was placed on two years of probation, court records show.
