(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 40-year-old Stillwater man has been jailed on $10,000 bail pending a Jan. 16 court appearance on a charge of choking his girlfriend on New Year’s Eve after two prior felony convictions.
Due to his criminal record, Eight Kelby Osman Awadalla, who has also been known as Jordan Kelby Awadalla, could be given a prison term of 20 years to life if convicted of domestic assault and battery by strangulation, court records show.
Stillwater Police Officer Tanner Galbiso wrote in an affidavit that at 1:03 pm on New Year’s Eve, he and another officer were sent to a residence on a report of a possible domestic assault in progress, but they were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided by a dispatcher.
“I attempted to make contact with the residents; however, no one answered,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
An hour and half later, the same officers were sent to same residence where a woman said that at about 1 pm “Eight had smacked her in the face causing injury to her tooth and then strangled her,” the affidavit alleged.
“I asked to see her injuries and she showed me her tooth,” before showing her neck that had a small red mark under her chin, Officer Galbiso wrote in his affidavit.
The woman “stated she just needed to get her belongings out of the house,” the affidavit alleged.
“I attempted to make contact with Eight at the rear door. I could hear someone behind the door; however, no one answered,” Officer Galbiso alleged in his affidavit.
“During this time, Sgt. Woodward arrived to assist. I asked (the woman) if she would be okay with having another female observe her injuries, and she said it would be fine. Sgt. Woodward attempted to see the injuries but (the woman) became verbally aggressive toward her.
“I attempted to ask if I could, and she showed me her full neck. I observed a 3-4″ red mark running down her neck from her ear that was approximately 1-2″ wide. These injuries are consistent with strangulation,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
According to Payne County court records, in January of 2017 Awadalla was convicted of attempting to elude an officer and endangering another, two counts of running a roadblock, possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license and failure to stop, all in Stillwater on Oct. 29, 2016, and sentenced to six months in jail followed by four and one-half years of probation.
According to Greer County court records, in August of 2017 Awadalla was convicted of seduction under promise of marriage committed between Dec. 1, 2016, and Feb. 9, 2017, and sentenced to five years of probation concurrent with his 2016 Payne County case.
