(Stillwater) – Payne County Sheriff Noel Bagwell says deputies got mixed results during compliance checks on beer sales to minors. Bagwell says some establishments improperly sold beer to underage people even after checking identification.
There were some businesses that turned underage beer purchasers away.
In a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, Bagwell says deputies checked fourteen locations. Of these locations, two did not have beer for sale in their establishments, six establishments sold beer to persons under the age of twenty-one and six denied the sale.
Bagwell says in some of the instances employees of the establishments checked the identification, however sold the beer anyway, in other cases the establishments did not even check the identification, with three establishments checking the identification then turning the person attempting to purchase the beer away.
Bagwell says that case reports have been forwarded to the Payne County District Attorney’s office for possible charges, and that the Sheriff’s Department will continue to conduct compliance checks.
