Saying So Long to the Crown

By Molly Payne

It will be a bittersweet day for MaKayla Foster July 14th.  Not only will the Drumright 6th grader celebrate her 12th birthday, she will give up her reign as the 2011 Cushing Community PRCA Rodeo Queen.

“I’m sad about giving it up,” MaKayla said.  “But I got to attend lots of parades as queen and I’ve had fun doing it.”

MaKayla is certainly no stranger to rodeos, she has been raised around it all her life.  Her father was a bull rider and her older brother Layne rides bulls now.  A member of the Drumright Round-Up Club, MaKayla participates in play days, running barrels, poles and flags.  She also enjoys trail rides, break away roping and is currently practicing team roping with her best friend Elizabeth.

As for future plans, MaKayla still dreams of going to college and becoming a veterinarian like her older sister Heather.

MaKayla is the daughter of David Foster and Angela Foster.
