(Stroud, Oklahoma)- The Sac and Fox Nation Business Committee confirmed their support today for the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations as they filed a Federal lawsuit to bring an end to the gaming compact renewal dispute. The Sac and Fox Nation is not a party to the lawsuit, but the Business Committee stands united with their fellow Nations.
“Our Sovereign Nations are strongest when Indian people are united in hope for our future. Our strength is dependent on loyalty and integrity and we will continue to stand with our fellow sovereign citizens with a desire to have a working relationship with the state of Oklahoma. A relationship is built on trust and unity, not on threats and divisiveness. While it is frustrating that it has come to this, we stand firm with the Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations,” stated Principal Chief Justin F. Wood.
In July, the Business Committee passed a resolution affirming the gaming compact’s evergreen provision is clear and provides for the automatic renewal of the compact on January 1, 2020.
The Sac and Fox Nation is a federally recognized tribal nation of over 4,000 enrolled members. The Nation is led by the Business Committee, comprised of five elected officials: Principal Chief Justin F. Wood, Second Chief Don Abney, Secretary Jacklyn King, Treasurer Jared King, and Committee Member Robert Williamson. The Nation’s jurisdiction lies in portions of Payne, Lincoln and Pottawatomie counties, with the capitol complex located outside of Stroud.
