Ruth Marie (Kanady) Brown of Cushing, former resident of Shamrock, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, in the Cushing Linwood Village Nursing Center.  She was 89.

Graveside services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be at 2:00PM, Tuesday, August 18, at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Northwest of Chandler.  Brother Wayne Tibbett of Cushing General Assembly of the Church of the Firstborn will officiate.

The daughter of Artist and Clemmie Bobby (Allen) Kanady, she was born at Depew on October 6, 1919.

She married Joe Cephees Brown on November 3, 1945, in Dimmitt, Texas.  The Browns lived in Shamrock where they operated the Brown Grocery, Cafe and General Store from 1949 to 1971.  She was well known for her cooking and especially the pies which people came from miles around to enjoy. Even today they talk about their memories and experiences just to get a piece of one of her pies.

Her parents, two sisters, one brother and her husband predeceased her.

Surviving are; a son Eugene Artist Brown and his wife Sherry Brown of Cushing; two daughters, Shirley Ann Raffety of Cushing and Sharon Lou Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia.  There are six grandchildren; Billie Jo Anson, Eric Brown, Amy Housh, Sandra Rogers, Joedy Raffety, and Sean Raffety.  She also has ten great-grandchildren.
