Ruby Jewel Harvison McDowell passed away Monday, September 15, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby was born October 7, 1925, in Charlotte, Arkansas, to Butler and Nellie Harvison. She grew up in Cushing and lived there until 1960 when she moved to Tulsa with her husband and five children. She was married to Howard Harris from 1946-1961.
Ruby loved to travel, fish, and attend craft fairs. She worked for the Tulsa County Election Board for 17 years. She had many friends in Cushing and Tulsa and loved visiting with all of them. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1943, and she was active in planning her class reunion until 2008 when she became ill. She was an avid lover of pets, especially her cat Tanner who sat on her lap every night while she watched TV.
Ruby is survived by her children Dean Fontenot and husband Ronnie from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Glenda Spruce of Broken Arrow, Connie Snelson and husband Rick of Porter and Doug Harris and wife Nita of Tulsa; sister Jane Flint and husband Harold of Agra; she was proud to have six grandchildren: Shelley Burd, Timothy Spruce, Jennifer Donley, Jamie Harris, Josh Snelson, Howard Harris, and David Harris; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband W.H. McDowell; her parents Butler and Nellie Harvison, two brothers, Ishmael and Barney Harvison; grandson Terry Don Kelly; and her youngest son Kenneth Dwayne Harris.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 18th at 2:00 pm in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment services will be held at the Avery Cemetery following the funeral. Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, September 17th from 6-8 pm at the Floyd Family Center. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she will not be forgotten.
