Roy Nelson Purcell of Yale, Ok passed away on November 22,
2010 in Cleveland, OK at the age of 76.
Roy was born in Quay, OK on September 29, 1934 to Nelson “Toots” and Estelle Purcell. Roy lived in the Yale area most of his life. He was an outstanding quarterback for the Yale High School; he was the second generation of four to play football for Yale and was known as the” Yale Flash”. After graduation Roy married Billie Sue Watson on August 5, 1952 in Davenport, OK. Early in their married life, Roy worked in the oilfield, later he worked as a pipe line X-ray technician for several companies in the Yale and Tulsa areas. In 1963 Roy realized part of his life’s dream when he and Billie Sue purchased their farm West of Jennings. He lived there until the time of his death.
Roy loved horses, bird hunting, training bird dogs, watching football and just driving through his pastures.
Roy is survived by his daughter Kay Brown of Edmond and son Lon Purcell of Yale, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Sandra Purcell of Woodward, sister Susie Purcell of Stillwater, grandchildren Holly Landsdown of Ocean Springs, MS., Lauren Brown and Alana Johnson of Edmond, Lance Purcell of Tulsa, great grandchildren Luke, Trenton and Isabella Landsdown of Ocean Spring, MS. and Carter Johnson of Edmond, uncle Bill Heilmann of Yale and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roy was preceded in death by the love of his life Billie Sue in 1996. He was also preceded in death by his father Nelson “Toots” Purcell in 2006 and his mother Estelle Purcell in 2009.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Lawson Cemetery, Yale, OK.
