Roy Nelson Cavin, age 61 of Oilton, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Drumright Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Oilton. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Oilton, Ok.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Ok.
Roy was born on February 10, 1951 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to the late Roy Olen Cavin, Ellen Elizabeth Bennett, and Josephine Cavin. He was raised as a child in Sand Springs, but shortly after moved to the Old Town of Mannford in grade school. His family purchased a farm and moved to Oilton where he also graduated from Oilton High School in 1969.
Roy joined the Army National Guard in 1971, unit 160th in Bristow, OK. He was very proud to serve his country in any way possible.
Roy began his career with Southwestern Bell/ AT&T in November of 1971 and retired in 2007. After retiring from AT&T, he began working for Central Vo-Tech in Drumright as an assistant instructor in the automotive classes and driving the bus. He enjoyed his time at the Vo-Tech with all of the students. Roy was currently serving on his first term on the Oilton City Council. He liked to read and was a history buff. Roy married the love of his life Janice Fowler on November 20, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roy was a family man, who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, but most of all Roy loved spending all his free time with his wife Janice.
Roy is survived by his wife Janice of the home, children Leah Young and husband Joey of Oilton, Kevin Cavin of Oilton, Ellen Cavin of Norman, grandchildren Madison, Kendall and Pressley Young, mother-in-law Elva Fowler of Oilton, brother and sisters in law Linda Clay of Tucson, AZ., Ruth Boyett of Oilton, Johnny Fowler and wife Pam of Nicoma Park, cousin Cynthia Colbert and husband David of Wichita, KS and a host of other family and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and brother Leonard Smith.
