Rev. James Everett Christian, age 87 of Cushing, a longtime area minister for over 51 years with the Freewill Baptist Church, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 18, 2009.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at First Freewill Baptist Church, Cushing.  Rev. Cory Thompson, Rev. Robert Thompson and Rev. Craig Thompson will officiate.  Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing.

Serving as casketbearers will be Christian Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Michael Christian, Lance Christian, Shawn Christian, Craig Thompson, Josh Thompson and Michael Christian.  Honorary casketbearers will be Dan Christian and Darrell Christian.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

James was born on September 30, 1922 in Heavener, Oklahoma to the late Oscar Eugene and Julia Beatrice (Butler) Christian.  He grew up and attended High School in Drumright.  James married Virginia Lee Fisher on February 7, 1942. James spent his life working for the Lord in churches at Free Silver, Lone Chimney, Stroud, Oilton, Trinity and Cushing.  He also was a member of the Ministerial Alliance and Lion’s Club and served on the First Mission Association Board and the Salvation Army Volunteer.  His greatest love was pastoring his flock.

He enjoyed spending time in his garden and growing beautiful flowers.  He also worked for Kerr McGee and Midwestern Life Insurance.

Survivors include his wife Virginia Lee Christian of the home, Darrell Leon Christian and wife Roberta of Tulsa, Dan Ray Christian and wife Susan of Drumright, daughters Barbara Kay Hollon of Cushing, Carol Evon Thompson and husband Robert of Oklahoma City, Deborah Faye Gregory and husband Steve of Morris, Janet Lee Plumer and husband Brian of Wichita, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

James was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmie Everett Christian, brothers John, Clyde, Jack, Rex and Ralph Christian, sisters Mae Griffin, Retha Cook and Mildred Trimble.
