(Cushing, Okla.) The community once again came together to show its support of the American Cancer Society and cancer research by giving – giving of their time, energy and money. At the end of the day, Relay for Life teams had surpassed the goal of $70,000 by more than $17,000.
In spite of Saturday’s heat, survivors, teams and supporters showed up at O’Dell Field at 5:30 p.m. excited about the event. After a dinner for the survivors, the 2012 Relay for Life began with the survivor walk around the track.
As team members walked throughout the night, money continued to be raised in sorts of ways – everything from food and drink, a live auction, and paintball games to photos with Santa.
The team bringing in the most amount was Drumright Dental Center with a total of $12,266.75 with the First Christian Church Disciples for a Cure raising $11,333.51. It was the Disciples first year to participate.
Total raised: $87,894.00.
Proceeds raised go to the American Cancer Society and are used to help cancer patients in Payne County. Last year, over 100 patients were helped by those funds. This year even more are expected to be helped. For more information go to: www.cancer.org
