Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Continues Food for Kids Match Campaign Through Sept. 30

Donations Matched to Fight Childhood Hunger in Oklahoma

(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Sept. 8, 2026 – Thousands of Oklahoma children have returned to the classroom, and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma wants to ensure no child goes to school on an empty stomach this school year.

“Food is the most essential school supply,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “When children across our state are fed, students can focus on learning, not hunger.”

Donations will continue to be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to 285,000 through Sept. 30, thanks to generous support from the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma, Mark and Beth Brewer, Expand Energy, Dolese Brothers Corporation and David and Lezlie Hudiburg.

“At Dolese our mission is to improve our communities with our products, actions and support,” said Kermit Frank, vice president of communications and community relations at Dolese Bros. “We can’t think of any better way to live out that mission than to support the Regional Food Bank and their work addressing food insecurity.”

Every dollar raised will go towards the Regional Food Bank’s four Food for Kids programs. Those programs include the School Pantry Program, the Summer Feeding Program, Kids Cafés and the Backpack Program.

The Kids Café Program, one of the four Food for Kids programs, provides meals and snacks at after school and school break programs that offer tutoring and mentoring services to children like Zeona.

Zeona is 17 years old, and a junior at a northeast Oklahoma City high school. She has been coming to the Kids Café Program at Pitts Recreation Center after school for the last two years with her two younger nephews. The food she receives at the Kids Café has been a consistent source of nutrition for them over the years, and she doesn’t know what she would do if the program wasn’t here. Now, she works to spread the word to those at her school who are struggling, so they can receive help, too.

“I can tell when a kid hasn’t eaten in a few days by the way they act,” she says. “They get what they need here, and they are perfectly fine when they leave.”

Just $100 provides a full school year of meals for two children through one of the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Programs. Donations can be made online at rfbo.org/kids or by texting “KidsOK” to 53-555.
