Raymond Glen Stiles passed away early Thursday morning, July 8, 2010 at Linwood Village in Cushing. 

    Many of his friends and family called him “Shorty” as he was nicknamed by Mr. Lloyd Bateson, the Principal at Hillside Elementary School.  He was born October 21, 1944 in Cushing Masonic Hospital to Lee Ray and Ruby (Greenwood) Stiles – the only one of four children not born at home.  

    He attended Hillside Dependent School excelling in basketball and 4-H activities.  Upon entering Cushing High School he joined FFA and earned Star Farmer Degree, holding several offices.  He was on the National Honor Society, a Varsity Scholar, and Wrestling Team.  Having had no previous wrestling experience, in his Senior year when the wrestling program was reinstated, he wrestled at 123 lbs. winning many titles in local, Regional and placed 4th in the State tournament.  All through his school days, he spent many hours helping with the family farm and dairy operation.  Hours were long and hard but he stood up to the challenge. 

    Shorty graduated from high school in 1962 and pursued a BS degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University completing his hours in 1966. While in college he was in the Dairy Science Club, Dairy judging team, Alpha Zeta, Agriculture Council, Agriculture Advisory Board, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, on the Dean’s Honor Roll and a member of Phi Kappa Phi.  After graduation he was employed by Pacific Molasses Co., Westwego, LA; Trojan Seed Co., Olivia, MN; International Breeders Service, INC., OKC; Oklahoma Department of Industrial Development, OKC first serving as a Rural Coordinator, then Coordinator I, Export Coordinator and finally Coordinator II.  From 1981 to July 2007 he worked as an independent petroleum land man. 

    He was a Specialist-4th class in the US Army Garrison Reserve (4003) serving on active duty for two weeks in Fort Polk, LA. 

    He enjoyed hunting, working the fields, gardening, and being outside.

    Shorty was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, mother, and one sister, Janice. 

    He is survived by a brother, Darrell L. Stiles and wife Billie; one sister, Nancy J. Chipukites and husband, Gordon, all of Cushing; five nieces, one nephew;  many great nieces and nephews; uncles, aunts, and cousins.

    Services will be held at the Big Creek Church of the Brethren West of Cushing, Monday, July 12, at 1:30 pm with Pastor John Holderread officiating. 

    Burial will follow in the Church Yard Cemetery.
