Porter A. Stollings Jr., age 82 of Yale, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Lawson Cemetery, Yale. Brother Mich Dershem will officiate.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.
Porter was born on December 13, 1926 in Ripley, Oklahoma to the late Porter A. and Lurline (Lozier) Stollings Sr. He grew up in Ripley and graduated from Ripley High School in 1945. Porter attended Oklahoma A & M University for a couple of years. He entered the U. S. Army in 1950 serving during the Korean Conflict. Porter married Mary Jester on February 17, 1954 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was a farmer for over 40 years. Porter enjoyed taking care of his cattle. He also was a mechanic for a number of years. Porter retired from Moore Business Forms in Stillwater in 1990 after 13 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion. Porter enjoyed watching television, dancing, and coin collecting. He was retired from the Yale Fire Department after 20 years of service. Porter loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Porter is survived by his wife Mary of the home, son Wayne Stollings of Livingston, TX., daughter Stephanie Stollings of Bixby, brother Lloyd Stollings and wife Margaret of Cushing, sisters Nellie Rose Pace and husband Ernest of Ripley, Joyce Schroeder and husband Ralph of Augusta, Kansas, grandchildren Matt and his wife Brandi, Erin, Nick and Adrianna, great grandchildren Maci and Ashlen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Vera Raper and Ruby Nearney.
