Phillip Wayland Jones, age 68 of Cushing, passed away on June 22, 2012 in Cushing, after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Church of Christ (9th and Linwood). Interment will follow on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Canfield Cemetery, Idabel, Oklahoma.
Phillip was born on December 19, 1943 in Idabel, Oklahoma to the late Vernon F. and Nola E. (Dollar) Jones. Phillip grew up and attended school in Idabel. He joined the Army National Guard and then served active duty with the U.S. Navy. Phillip serviced in Southeast Asia as an Aircraft Recovery Tech on the USS Lexington, CVA 16. After being discharged from the Navy, he attended college and worked towards his Associate Degree in Administrative Justice.
Phillip married Marcy Barnard Pauley on July 12, 1974 in Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in Cushing. He worked in Upholstery owning the Y-Not Upholstery since 1975. He was very active in the VFW 1118 and the American Legion Post 108. He served as commander of the American Legion 108 from 2005 – 2008, and also served as commander of the VFW 1118. He also taught Upholstery at Central Vo-Tech for four years. He loved spending time with his family.
Phillip is survived by his wife Marcy Jones of the home daughter Peggy M. Linderman and husband James of Cushing, sons Jimmie L. Pauley Jr. of Cushing, Franklin E. Jones of Haskell, Sherman W. Jones of Ripley, sister Alma Lou Daffern of De Kalb,Tx, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and over 29 foster children, and special friends Jim Hunter, Chris Wallis and Jim Chrisp, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
