STILLWATER — A Perkins woman, who was placed on probation a year ago for drunk driving in Pawnee County, has been charged with drunk driving in Payne County on Highway 18 north of Cushing — without an ignition interlock device that was required on her license.
If convicted of felony drunk driving, Crystal Dawn Hansen, 38, who previously lived in Cushing, could be given a five-year prison term and a $5,000 fine. If convicted of the misdemeanor count of driving without a required interlock device, Hansen could be given a six-month jail term and a $500 fine, court records show.
Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Donato Lomboy alleged in an affidavit that at 3:14 pm on Feb. 12 he was on patrol in the area of Deep Rock and Highway 18 traveling north when he saw a Chevy Colorado going south at radar-indicated speed of 73 mph in a 45-mph posted speed limit zone.
After turning around and getting behind the vehicle, the deputy saw “the vehicle cross left of center into the northbound lane and start to go off the road to the west several times within a mile,” the affidavit alleged.
When the deputy asked Hansen during a traffic stop if she had anything to drink, “Crystal stated that she hadn’t had anything to drink and that she was texting while driving…I asked Crystal if she was sure that she didn’t have anything to drink, and she admitted that she had been drinking,” the affidavit alleged.
She said she started drinking at 8 am, and her last drink was at 10 am, the affidavit alleged. “Crystal stated she was drinking ‘Beat Box.’ Crystal stated, ‘I try to time it out. I have a breathalyzer, so I normally know how to time things out.’
“I asked Crystal if she was supposed to have one in the vehicle but didn’t, and she stated that she was supposed to have an interlock device in the vehicle, but she didn’t because she was getting a tag for (a relative),” the deputy alleged in his affidavit.
After giving her field sobriety tests and confirming her interlock ignition device requirement, the deputy transported her to the Stillwater City Jail where Officer Tanner Galbiso gave her a breath test that resulted in .20, the affidavit alleged.
The day after she was arrested, Hansen was released from the Payne County Jail on $5,000 bond with an order to appear in court on March 13 with an attorney, court records show.
According to Pawnee County court records, on Feb. 27, 2024, Hansen had been placed on two years’ probation under a deferred sentence on a misdemeanor charge of drunk driving in Cleveland.
