(Stillwater, Okla.) A Perkins man has been jailed on $5,000 bail on two counts of animal cruelty, pending an Oct. 2 court appearance with an attorney.

Corbin Clint Reid, 20, was arraigned from the Payne County Jail following his arrest by Perkins Police Sgt. Kyle Howard, court records show.

Reid’s landlord had contacted police on Sept. 3 after seeing “a dog in the back yard that looked in poor health,” at Reid’s residence in the 100 block of W. Chantry, according to Howard’s affidavit.

“I could see the yellow Labrador dog’s ribs. Further, there was not any type of shelter, clean water, or any food that I could observe,” the police sergeant wrote in an affidavit.

The landlord, who said that Reid had failed to make his monthly rent payment, said “he entered the residence and another dog ran out,” but he did not find anyone home, the affidavit alleged.

“The other dog, a black Corgi mixed, also looked malnourished when he came back to the property,” the affidavit alleged.

“After making every possible contact available for Corbin, we seized the dogs for fear of the dogs’ health, no proper water, no food and no shelter. The high for the heat on this day was 93 degrees,” the police sergeant alleged in his affidavit.

Perkins Animal Control Supervisor Colleen Crummy “advised the dogs were in bad shape, according to the veterinarian, Dr. Wendy Murray of Perkins Veterinary Clinic,” the affidavit alleged.

“The yellow Labrador and black Corgi mix both had a severe case of hookworms,” the affidavit alleged.

On the veterinary scale, with 1 being malnourished/underweight, the yellow Labrador was rated 1, while the black Corgi was rated a 1.5, the affidavit alleged.

“Both dogs were also dehydrated,” the affidavit alleged.

After Reid was contacted through a previous owner of the yellow Lab, Reid voluntarily went to the Perkins Police Department that evening, the affidavit said.

“Corbin said he has not had any shelter for the dogs for the last two-three months. Corbin said that the dog was not given water that day,” the affidavit alleged.

“I asked Corbin when the last time he fed the dogs was and he started to say Saturday, but changed it to Sunday. The day of this interview was a Thursday,” the police sergeant alleged in his affidavit.

“Corbin said he hasn’t taken the dogs to the vet in ‘a few months,"” the affidavit alleged.

“I asked him why he hasn’t tried to place the dogs with someone else and he said he tried, but no one else would take the dogs,” the police sergeant wrote in his affidavit.

“I asked if he tried Perkins Animal Shelter or the Stillwater Animal Shelter and he said no.

“Corbin told me he did not know the dogs had worms,” the police sergeant wrote in his affidavit.

“Corbin stated he felt bad and he tried to do something about the dogs, just he didn’t try hard enough,” the affidavit alleged.

“After the interview, I told Corbin he was under arrest for animal cruelty,” the Perkins police sergeant wrote in his affidavit.
