(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Perkins man has admitted possessing methamphetamine in Stillwater, stealing $300 from his girlfriend’s house in Perkins, and drunk driving when he crashed his car in Stillwater.

Jerry Wayne Wright, 38, who entered his guilty pleas in March, remains in the Payne County Jail pending his sentencing on July 11.

Wright has a plea bargain for a six-month jail term, a 10-year probationary sentence, substance abuse counseling, drug testing, restitution, and $1,600 in fines and assessments, as well as his incarceration cost, court records show.

A felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender was dropped by the prosecution Friday against Wright, who had been convicted of sexual assault in Denton County, Texas, in 1997, court records show.

In his latest case, a Perkins woman who said she discovered that $300 was missing from her purse on Oct. 5, 2013, showed Perkins Police Investigator Charles Danker text messages that Wright had sent her, his affidavit said.

She said that she had been seeing Wright for about two weeks after meeting him at her workplace, the affidavit said.

She said she received an $800 child support check in the mail, cashed it, gave $200 to her parents, put $200 on a card, and paid a bill for about $90, the affidavit said.

She said she had about $310 and some change left in her purse from the child support check when she went upstairs to sleep since she wasn’t feeling well on the morning of Oct. 5, 2013, the affidavit said.

She said “she checked her purse and $300 was missing — the $10 and some change was left in her purse,” the affidavit said.

A text message to the woman said, “I would’ve given you all your money back last night if you would’ve left me alone. There is no need for you to text or call me anymore,” the affidavit said.

“The Perkins woman responded, ‘I need that money back this week — the boys really do need winter clothes and a jacket, so please keep your word. You can be mad at me all you want, but don’t let my boys down because of it,” the affidavit said.

Wright texted, “Don’t try to play the kid card on me. You will get your money when I get it,” the affidavit said.

The Perkins woman said “she has a relative that is a security guard and he helped her look up Jerry on the internet and found out he was a sex offender,” the affidavit said.

Three months earlier, Wright was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and possession of methamphetamine after sheriff’s deputies went to a trailer home in rural Stillwater to serve an arrest warrant for him, court records show.

In 2012, Wright had been charged with aggravated drunk driving following his arrest by Stillwater Police Officer Cody Manuel, who saw Wright crash his car at 900 W. Lakeview, an affidavit said.

A state crime bureau toxicology analysis of Wright’s blood showed his alcohol content was .20 — more than twice the amount for a finding of drunk driving, court records show.
