(Oklahoma City) – The latest unemployment figures show a slight decline in unemployment in Payne County. The numbers are well below the national average.   According to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission,  unemployment for April 2009 stood at 6.1 per cent in  Payne County, a decline of .5 per cent from March 2009. 

Unemployment declined in all adjacent counties.  In Creek County,  the April jobless numbers are at 7 per cent,  a decline of .4 per cent from the month of March. Unemployment in Lincoln County stands at 6.7 per cent,  a decline of .6 per cent from March. In Pawnee County, a decline of .9 per cent lowered the unemployment rate to 5.9 per cent. Unemployment in Logan County is 5.3 per cent, a drop of .3 per cent.

Statewide unemployment was 6.2 per cent for the month of April, an increase of .3 per cent.   Nationally, unemployment statnds at 9.4 per cent.
