The Cushing Lions Club recently welcomed Payne County Junior Miss winner Jordan Young. Jordan will be a senior at Cushing High School and is the daughter of Tim and Deborah Young. She participates in basketball, dance and Student Council at CHS and is a member of the Tri-County Church.

Jordan said it was at the urging of her friend and previous Payne County Junior Miss scholarship recipient Brittani Anderson that led her to compete in this year’s pageant.

“I wanted to try some new things,” Jordan said, “and she suggested I enter. It really is a great program.”

The Junior Miss Scholarship Program encourages self-esteem, healthy and drug-free living as well as community involvement – and, “how to be your best self.”

“You certainly learn a lot about yourself,” Jordan said.

Payne County Junior Miss Scholarship Program Chairman, Richard Hawkins reiterated the value of the Jr. Miss Scholarship Program, “This gives them a step-ahead,” Hawkins said. “They go through 8 weeks of rehearsal. They are prepared for each step of the competition – including how to interview.”

“The interview was the hardest part,” Jordan admitted, “but I’m glad I entered. I never thought I’d win.”
