(Stillwater, Okla.) Payne County Democrats present Brayfest: An Evening of Red Dirt Politics on October 3, 2014 at the Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater featuring a mix of poetry, red dirt music and interviews with all the Democratic candidates on the ballot this November.
Journalist Arnold Hamilton, editor of the Oklahoma Observer and a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, will interview Democratic candidates, including candidate for governor Joe Dorman, lieutenant governor candidate Cathy Cummings, candidates for U.S. Senate Connie Johnson and Matt Silverstein.
Candidate for state Superintendent of public instruction John Cox, candidate for labor commissioner Mike Workman and candidate for Payne County assessor Ted Smith will also participate. This is a chance to see candidates that are on the ballot in Payne County in November so voters can make informed decisions when they cast their votes in the November general election.Poet Lauren Zuniga, one brightest lights on the Oklahoma’s cultural scene, will open the evening with an informed view of her experiences as a queer-identified, single mother of two living in the conservative state of Oklahoma. She cares about our state and isn’t afraid to let everyone know it. You’ll care too by the time she’s finished.
Known for his protest songs, songwriter Chuck Dunlap will perform his rousing anthem “The People’s Plea” which highlights Wall Street greed and social injustice with the chorus, “Stand up, speak out, this is still our country. Stand and let your voice ring free.”
Tickets are $10 and includes a BBQ dinner from Payne County’s newest restaurant — Capp’s BBQ in Cushing. There will also be a silent auction and other contribution opportunities to support the local Democratic Party and our candidates.
We will also have a limited number of sponsorships for high school and OSU Young Democrats provided by our supports so they hear what our candidates have to say and can make informed decisions about their future.
Tickets can be purchased online at paynecountydemocrats.org or in person at Payne County Democratic headquarters at 302 N. Main in Stillwater. For more information, call (405) 533-5310.
