(Stillwater) – Payne County Commissioners approved a county wide burn ban Friday morning at a special meeting called just to consider the burn ban.

The resolution approved by the Commission allows exceptions with the appropriate precautionary measures, including, indoor fireplaces, commercial or professional covered cookers, welding with adequate protections, and gas grills (no charcoal).

Enforcement may be carried out by any law enforcement officer of the state. Any person convicted of a violation would be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject ot a fine of up to $500 and imprisonment up to one year, or both.

The resolution is effective for only 7 days, and could be rescinded on Monday if adequate precipitation is received.
